California Cruises Are the First-Ever Flights to Carry Passengers Between the Cities by Zeppelin

MOFFETT FIELD, CA--(Marketwire - April 29, 2009) - Continuing to celebrate its second season of operations, Airship Ventures announced today that in May, Eureka, the largest airship in the world, will make the first-ever passenger flights between San Francisco and Los Angeles by a Zeppelin. Bookending the Memorial Day holiday and a special week of Los Angeles tours, Eureka's first California Airship Cruises will allow passengers to enjoy spectacular views of California's Coastline and Central Valley as they sail in comfort 1,000 feet above the sights. Weather permitting, departure is scheduled for May 20 with a return on May 26.

"This is the first time since the Graf Zeppelin passed through California in 1929 on its round-the-world trip that sightseers have ever had the opportunity to view Central California and Los Angeles from a passenger Zeppelin," noted Airship Ventures Director of Sales Joanne Fedeyko. "Our inaugural California Airship Cruises and Los Angeles Airship Tours are quite literally historic occasions and they exemplify the type of unique experiences our passengers enjoy everywhere we fly."

In addition to a week of California Airship Cruises and Los Angeles Airship Tours, Airship Ventures will continue to offer scenic flights above the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas and continue its most popular promotions; highlights include:

Airship Ventures gets new cash

On Feb 21st. SFGate.com ran an article called "Fresh cash windfall for zeppelin" about Airship Ventures the San Francisco company that recently purchased a Zeppelin NT and brought it to the US. The article describes the current situation of Airship Ventures and how the economic downturn affected them. According to the article they got another round of investments to keep the company aloft and operating. But even though times are difficult, the article mentions that Airship Ventures will soon crack the 1,500 passengers mark and has 800 more booked flights. That's a total of 2300 passengers with a lowest ticket price of 495$ the minimum revenue that Airship Ventures will have made is 2300 x 495$ = 1,138,500$ If you remember that the airship arrived in October that is only 5 months of flying in the winter, to me that is quite the accomplishment. Congratulations and best wishes to Airship Ventures, that the passenger numbers will increase as the weather gets warmer and that the birthing pains will soon be history.

The Zeppelin NT - Number 4 is almost ready to fly.

We haven't treated you with new airship news for a whole week, how could we. But I will try to catch up a little on what was hot last week and what's hot this week. The most important news item for the industry was most definitely that the Zeppelin NT #4 is ready to fly. On Wednesday the Zeppelin was ready and waiting for the Helium.
This is the Picture Airshipventures posted along with their Post. You can see the German tail number of the Zeppelin NT #4 which is D-LZNT which of course wont be the final number. As far as we know Airship Ventures have reserved the tail number N704LZ for the Zeppelin in the US.

Later on the Zeppelin got it's Artwork applied. Airship Ventures teased us with a picturethat was just showing the first two letters being applied by Airbornegrafix reading "Ai". Luckily SZON the portal of Schwäbische Zeitung released an article about the new Zeppelin featuring a picture of the full artwork. The complete artwork reads: "Airship Ventures - Going Places" we assume that the Artwork will stay on the Zeppelin until it reaches the US and the first Sponsor has been found. Even if the Zeppelin will fly until the end of June over Lake Constance. Plans are to fly in the Netherlands and Great Brittan until the Zeppelin is shipped around September 10th 2008.

On Thursday the 15th of May the Zeppelin was filled with Helium for the first time while being still suspended from the ceiling. Friday was the big day, the Zeppelin was put on the mast truck and the engines were fired up for the first time. As weather permits the Zeppelin NT #4 will hopefully fly for the first time some time very soon maybe this week. We will keep you updated but if you can't wait at all have an eye on the Airship Ventures Blog Up Ship! you should also head over to their Blog if you want to read a bit more in depth about what is currently going on in Friedrichshafen. If you are at Lake Constance and want to be our on site reporter let us know and we will forward you the time when the Zeppelin NT will roll out of the hangar and make it's first flight. A moment that should be captured on video and photo for the history books.

Airshipventures on a fieldtrip at Zeppelin

Have you read the Airshipventures Blog Up Ship! lately ? Yes well then this wont be much news for you. But if you haven't read on to find out what has been going on with The Zeppelin NT Number 4 and the Airshipventures who want to bring it to San Francisco.
So join me as I guide you through their last couple of posts, make sure to check out all the links in the text to see lot's of great Zeppelin Pictures. Most of them are really hot of the press and haven't been posted anywhere else on the web. So on August 18th they left for their Field Trip to Friedrichshafen. They arrived and one of the first things they saw was the beautiful Zeppelin NT with the Mainau artwork on it. If you come to Germany you wont get around the beer and if you are at Zeppelin you can not get around the original Fliegerbier and the Zeppelin Bier. If you drink lot's of beer you might have to go to the NT (New Toilet) of the fourth Zeppelin NT - probably the only pictures of the zeppelins washroom. If you want to bring a Zeppelin to San Francisco you will get into the news, even with a nice mock up of the Zeppelin over the Golden Gate bridge. And to hold a Zeppelin in place it might take a huge man or a mast truck manufactured by MAN might do too. Have you ever seen how many people it takes to land a blimp, and then exchange passengers, for example on the Goodyear Blimp ? Well the Zeppelin is different how about exchanging 12 passengers, off and new ones on in 4 minutes 12 seconds? Yes airships are fascinating especially for kids in Friedrichshafen who can really see the Zeppelin. Actually Friedrichshafen is the Zeppelin City with airship Artifacts and Art everywhere. But back to the Zeppelin that has lost it's Mainau artwork in the meanwhile and is heading out for a morning flight with a huge ground crew of four people. Some might remember the pictures of the Zeppelin NT No.4 that we posted a while ago, well the now there is more to see, the grinders are already partly assembled and you can recognize the gondola as one. The view out of a Zeppelin window is absolutely fantastic and you can even open the windows, try that with a plane. There is a Zeppelin shop in Friedrichshafen and of course the Museum with a lot of highlights.
You can see there has been a lot going over at Airshipventures and in the weeks to come there will be more, make sure to check their blog regularly for updates. And also if you find the time go to Friedrichshafen and see for yourself how amazing the Zeppelin NT is.
