Hindenburg picture and other military aviation art

I just found this picture of the Hindenburg and wanted to share it with you.

The picture is part of The Military Art Gallery featuring a vast selection of military art prints. There are more airship pictures in the gallery for example here pictures by the Artist Marii Chernev featuring a German Zeppelin over the English Coast 1916 and a German observation balloon in spring 1915. Maybe there are even more great pictures, have a look around in The Military Art Gallery and let us know. If you find a good one post a link in the comments.

YouTube Airship stuff - part 1

Paul Boldt who contributes to the Blog regular with his great Future Flight story just posted a few links to YouTube Videos on the Yahoo Airshiplist and I thought, that I share some of them with you, it's gonna be a multi part post since there quite a few Videos. Also if you have not yet checked out Paul's story, read the already published parts, and keep an eye out for part 4 coming soon:
=FUTURE>FLIGHT - an airship story - Part 1
=FUTURE>FLIGHT - an airship story - Part 2
=FUTURE>FLIGHT - an airship story - Part 3

Now on to the Videos, the first one is a Video of a test Flight of the USS Macon.

Video number two is a CG animated flyby of the USS Akron.

Video three shows the Zeppelin NT starting, notice the zero ground crew during the start and compare that to a start of the Goodyear blimp. This video really showcases the Zeppelins manoeuvrability.

The fourth Video is a collection of clips of the Zeppelin Hindenburg flying over Manhattan, let's all hope we will see this happen soon with a new cross Atlantic passenger Airship line.

The fifth and last video for this post is a clip of what I think is a Skyship 600 on it's mast.
So stay tuned for even more videos later tonight, and tomorrow, there is some interesting stuff coming up, a new remote controlled blimp, a unmanned airship built for the US Army and even a blimp from Columbia. Thanks again to Paul Boldt for starting this.

Wonders of World Engineering - The Hindenburg

It has been 70 years since that fatal day when the Hindenburg exploded but none the less it was a great airship. Wonders of World Engineering a magazine published in the 1930s had a great article about the Hindenburg, containing some very good pictures of the great Zeppelin. At http://www.wow-engineering.co.uk/ all the issues of this magazine are preserverd. You can check out the Hindenburg article if you have the plugin called Deja-Vu installed. You can download and install it from lizardtech.com .

If you got the plugin check out the following links:

This is just one of the many articles that where published in Wonders of World Engineering, if you are interested in technology go check out the site, and all the other issues of the magazine.

One of the days in airship history

So today, is that day that pretty much brought us here, the day when the Hindenburg went up in flames. I prepared an article about the Hindenburg disaster since it's been 70 years ago today, but I decided I leave it with this small post. We don't want to dig up that dark chapter year after year. Technology moved on, everybody knows that nobody would use hydrogen for airships anymore and it's time to write the next chapter of airship history starting with everyone working on airships today. It's now time for investors to realize the potential of airships and to use them for new ways of travel and transportation. The future begins now.

Airship Cutaways

Airbus AD300On the Airshipworld Yahoogroup Mark Nelson pointed out two really nice cutaway images of airships, one shows the Zeppelin LZ-129 “Hindenburg” and the other on the Airbus-Industries AD300 Airship of 1979, which I have never heard about. Unfortunately the images aren't in a huge resolution especially for the Hindenburg, one would have wished to be able to read everything in the picture. They are part of the Flight Global archive which just got boosted up woth many new pictures. Go to the starting page of the Flight Archive to find images, cutaways and soon full backlog magazines, it's definetly gonna become a great resource for everyone interested in aircrafts.
